Lupus vulgaris
It is the most common form of cutaneous tuberculosis.
The term “lupus” means wolf or perhaps the name is for the appearance on the face as if it had been eaten by a wolf.
It is commonly situated on the face or on the buttock, but any other area of the body may be involved.
The classic lesion is the plaque, single or occasionally multiple. It has advancing active margin and trailing scar.
Active edge of the lesion on diascopy may demonstrate pale yellow nodules-called “apple jelly nodules”.
Occasionally superficial ulceration or verrucous thickening may occur.
Rarely, it may be complicated by squamous cell carcinoma or basal cell carcinoma.
It occurs in individuals who have previously been exposed and thus sensitized to the organism.

ulcers form at the sites of larger
infiltrations.. the disease most frequently
attacks the face.
